남북한이 카타르에서 열리는 2006년 아시안게임과 중국에서 개최되는 2008년 베이징올림픽에서 단일팀을 구성하는데 합의했습니다.
김정행 대한체육회 부회장이 수석대표를 맡은 한국 대표단은 1일 2005년도 동아시안게임이 열리는 마카오의 북한 숙소인 이스트아시아홀을 방문, 리동호 수석대표가 있는 북한 대표단과 회동을 갖고 단일팀 구성에 의견을 모았습니다.
이후 양측은 2006년 아시안게임과 2008년 베이징 올림픽에서 단일팀을 구성한다는 합의문을 발표했습니다.
남북은 다음 달 7일 개성에서 추가접촉을 갖고, 선수 선발이나 훈련 등 세부사항 논의를 위해 양측 올림픽위원회 부위원장을 대표로 하는 실무회담을 가질 예정입니다.

North and South Korea have taken another step toward competing as a single team at next year's Asian Games and the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.
The two sides say delegations will meet in the Northern border city of Kaesong December seventh to work out the details of selecting and training the team.
North and South Korea reached a provisional agreement to field the joint team last month.
Athletes from the two Koreas have marched together a number of times, including at the opening ceremonies of the 2000 and 2004 Olympics. But they did not compete together. They fielded unified teams for the World Table Tennis Championships and an international youth football competition in 1991.
