Israel has suspended security contacts with the Palestinian Authority following Palestinian militant attacks that killed three Jewish settlers in the West Bank. Israeli forces also re-imposed some recently-lifted restrictions on Palestinian movement and set up roadblocks at the entrances to Bethlehem and Hebron.
Israel radio said today (Monday) that four of the Israelis wounded in Sunday's attacks were still hospitalized, with two in critical condition. The al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades claimed responsibility for both attacks -- one at a bus stop outside a Jewish settlement bloc near Bethlehem and the second outside a settlement near Ramallah.
Top Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat called the al-Aqsa attacks "unfortunate," and said he believes they were designed to sabotage prospects for peace talks with Israel. He also said the Israeli siege at Bethlehem and Hebron will not move the peace process forward.
