루마니아에서 확인된 H5N1 조류독감 바이러스는 터키와 아시아에서 발견된 것과 똑같은 아주 위험한 형태라고 유럽연합 관리들이 말했습니다.
마코스 키프리아노 유럽연합 보건 위원장은 영국에서의 시험결과 루마니아의 다뉴브 강변에서 발견된 야생조류의 사망 원인이 H5N1 조류독감 때문인 것으로 확인된 직후 이같이 발표했습니다.
키프리아노 위원장은 현재 루마니아로부터 수입되는 가금류에 대한 금지 외에 추가 조처는 필요하지 않다고 말했습니다.
앞서 루마니아 정부 관리들은 시험 결과 치명적인 H5N1 조류독감 바이러스가 루마니아에 존재하는 사실을 확인했다고 말했습니다.
루마니아 정부는 이같은 결과를 영국의 실험실로부터 받았다고 농무부 대변인이 밝혔습니다.
H5N1 바이러스는 2003년 아시아에서 60여명을 사망하게 한 바이러스와 같은 것으로, 아시아 이외의 지역에서는 지금까지 터키와 러시아에서 발견됐습니다. 또 불가리아에서는 확인되지 않은 형태의 조류독감이 발견됐습니다.

European Union officials say the H5N1 strain of bird flu confirmed today (Saturday) in Romania is the same highly dangerous strain as that found earlier in Turkey and in Asia.
EU Health Commissioner Markos Kyprianou made the announcement hours after a lab in Britain confirmed that the wild birds found dead in Romania's Danube delta were victims of the H5N1 strain of bird flu. The commissioner said no further measures are needed at this point following Thursday's imposition of an EU ban on poultry imports from Romania.
Romanian officials say test results have confimred the presence of the deadly H5N1 strain of bird flu in the country. An Agriculture Ministry spokesman said the government received the results from a laboratory in Britain today (Saturday).
The H5N1 strain is the same virus that has killed more than 60 people in Asia since 2003. Outside of Asia, it also has been detected in Russia and Turkey. Unidentified cases of bird flu have been found in Bulgaria.
Today's (Saturday's) finding in Romania comes one day after the European Union announced a series of new measures aimed at preventing the H5N1 strain from entering the 25-nation trading bloc.
Scientists are concerned the H5N1 strain will mutate to a form that passes easily among humans, and cause a pandemic with the potential to kill millions of people.
