시리아 언론은 당국이 현지 시각으로 12일 정오경 발생한 이번 자살 사건을 수사중이라고 보도했습니다.
카난 장관은 2천 3년까지 20여년간 레바논주재 시리아의 정보 책임자였습니다.
카난 자오간은 , 지난 2월 베이루트에서 폭탄 테러로 암살당한 라피크 하리리 전 레바논 총리 암살 사건과 관련 최근 유엔조사관들의 신문을 받았습니다.

Syria says Interior Minister Ghazi Kanaan, who headed Syrian intelligence in Lebanon for two decades until 2003, has committed suicide.
The Syrian news agency says the minister's death occurred around noon local time (today / Wednesday) at his office in Damascus.
General Kanaan was questioned recently by United Nations investigators probing the February 14th assassination of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri. Earlier today, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad told the Cable News Network that any Syrian official found involved in the killing would be charged with treason.
At about the same time, General Kanaan contacted a Lebanese radio station and issued a brief statement denying involvement in the assassination. He then said he believed his comments would be the last he would make.
Four top pro-Syrian Lebanese generals have been indicted in the Hariri assassination. Last month, the top U.N. investigator (Detlev Mehlis) said they were not the only suspects in the case. A final U.N. report is due later this month.
