A gas explosion in a Chinese coal mine today (Monday) has killed at least 34 people.
China's official Xinhua news agency said the blast occurred in a mine near the city of Hebi in the central province of Henan.
Xinhua said an investigation is under way, but gave no further details.
China's mines are the most dangerous in the world, with thousands of workers killed every year by flooding, explosions, cave-ins and fires.
The industry is plagued by a lack of proper equipment and poor enforcement of safety rules, despite efforts by the government to make the industry safer.
