A new report says none of the developing countries in Asia or the Pacific are on track to meet all their U.N.development goals by 2015 -- despite significant progress in some areas.

The report, from two U.N. agencies and the Asian Development Bank, says developing Asian countries must invest more resources and strengthen national and local institutions to achieve the development goals.

The report (A Future Within Reach), released today (Wednesday) in Manila, said the region has made dramatic progress in eradicating extreme poverty and hunger, although child malnutrition is "disturbingly high" in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India and Nepal. It also says the fight against HIV-AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis are great concerns for the region.

Kim Hak-Su, executive secretary of the U.N. Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, says the key challenge to achieving the goals is to tackle the region's growing economic disparities.
