한편 기술자들은 허리케인 카트리나의 엄습으로 들어찬 오염된 물을 뽑아내는 작업을 시작했습니다.
허리케인으로 파괴된 바다보다 낮은 뉴올리언즈의 제방이 수리된 후, 물을 퍼내는 작업은6일에도 계속되고 있습니다. 비상요원들과 경찰, 주방위군 병력은 뉴올리언스 시에 남아있는 주민들을 완전히 소개시키고 약탈자들을 뿌리뽑기 위해 노력하고 있습니다.

Authorities have set up a huge morgue north of New Orleans for the bodies being found as floodwaters begin to drain from the hurricane-ravaged city.
A spokesman for the Louisiana state Health and Hospitals Department (Bob Johannessen) says the morgue, a massive warehouse the town of Saint Gabriel, can hold several thousand bodies if necessary.
Engineers have begun the massive task of pumping contaminated floodwater out of the southern U.S. city of New Orleans, Louisiana in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.
Pumping operations are continuing today (Tuesday) a day after repairs were completed to the main levee that burst as a result of the hurricane, flooding New Orleans, which sits below sea-level.
Emergency workers, police and National Guard troops are working to completely evacuate New Orleans and root out looters.
Experts say floodwaters there are highly contaminated with toxic chemicals, raw sewage, dangerous debris, decomposing bodies and deadly diseases.
Hurricane Katrina also destroyed the state of Mississippi's Gulf of Mexico coastline.
The storm has left hundreds of thousands of people homeless. Many are in temporary shelters in other states. Relief efforts are under way to help victims rebuild their lives and find lost loved ones.
Authorities say they fear the final death toll from Hurricane Katrina will run into the thousands.
