파키스탄은 허리케인 카트리나로 인한 피해복구 지원을 위해 미국 걸프만에 의사와 긴급의료 요원을 파견하겠다고 제안했습니다.
파키스탄 외교부는 미국 정부가 이같은 제안에 고마움을 나타냈으며, 두 나라는 현재 어떤 지원이 가장 필요한지를 협의하고 있다고 밝혔습니다.
아프가니스탄은 허리케인 구호를 위해 10만달러를 약속했습니다. 로널드 노이먼 아프간 주재 미국대사는 이 돈은 두 나라 국민 간에 강화된 유대관계를 입증하는 것이라면서 아프간 국민들에게 감사의 뜻을 밝혔습니다.
이밖에 세계에서 가장 가난한 나라의 하나인 방글라데쉬도 1백만달러 지원을 약속했고, 쓰나미로 큰 피해를 입었던 스리랑카는 2만5천달러를 지원하겠다고 밝혔습니다.

피델 카스트로 쿠바 대통령은 허리케인 카트리나 피해자들의 치료를 위해 1,100명의 의사를 미국에 보내겠다고 거듭 제안했습니다.
카스트로 대통령은 4일 하바나에서 연설하면서 이들 의사들은 모두 의약품과 기타 긴급 의료장비가 든 가방을 소지하게 될 것이라고 말했습니다. 카스트로 대통령은 또 26톤의 지원품을 제공하겠다고 밝혔습니다.
그러나 미국은 아직 쿠바 정부의 이같은 제안에 대해 공식적인 반응을 보이지 않고 있습니다.
[유럽연합과 북대서양조약기구]
유럽연합과 북대서양조약기구는 미국의 카트리나 피해복구 지원을 위해 재난구호팀과 식량을 보내기 시작했습니다.
유럽연합 대변인은 5일 미국으로부터 공식적인 긴급지원 요청을 받았다면서 우선 의료장비와 식수 트럭, 담요 및 50만개의 레이션을 보낼 것이라고 밝혔습니다.
북대서양조약기구도 재난대응 및 조율센터를 통해 긴급지원을 논의하고 있습니다. 이 기구의 한 대변인은 미국이 식량 등 필요물자의 목록을 전해 왔다고 말했습니다.

Pakistan has offered to send doctors and paramedics to the U.S. Gulf Coast to help treat the victims of Hurricane Katrina.
The foreign ministry in Islamabad says the U.S. government has expressed appreciation for the offer and that the two sides are trying to determine what kind of assistance is needed most.
In Afghanistan, the government pledged 100-thousand dollars for hurricane relief. U.S. Ambassador Ronald Neumann thanked the Afghan people, saying the money "bears testimony to the strength of the ties between our two peoples."
Bangladesh, one of the world's poorest countries, promised to donate one million dollars, while tsunami-stricken SriLanka donated 25-thousand dollars.
Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has written to President Bush, expressing sympathy and confidence in Mr. Bush's leadership to deal with the tragedy.
[Cuba]
Cuban President Fidel Castro has made another offer to send 11-hundred doctors to the U.S. Gulf Coast to treat the victims of Hurricane Katrina.
Mr. Castro repeated the offer Sunday during a speech before the doctors in Havana. Each of the doctors were outfitted with green backpacks filled with medicines and other emergency medical supplies. Mr. Castro is also offering 26 tons of supplies.
Washington has not formally responded to the Cuban leader's offer, which he first made on Friday.
The two governments have not had formal diplomatic ties in more than 40 years.
[EU]
The European Union and NATO have begun sending disaster coordinators, aid teams and food rations to the United States to help in the massive hurricane relief effort along the U.S. Gulf Coast.
In Brussels today (Monday), an EU spokeswoman said the 25-nation bloc has received an official request for emergency assistance from Washington. She said the initial items include first aid kits, water trucks, blankets and half a million prepared meals (MRE's).
NATO has also started coordinating emergency assistance through its Disaster Response Coordination Center. A spokesman said Washington has provided it with a list of items needed in the relief effort, starting with food.
