세계 50여개국, 미국에 태풍피해 지원 제의 - 쿠바등 적대국도 (영문기사 첨부)


미국의 허리케인 피해를 돕기 위한 세계각국의 성금과 지원의 손길이 답지하고 있습니다. 지금까지 50여개국이 허리케인 피해지역인 뉴올리언스 등 멕시코만 연안의 여러 지역 이재민들을 돕기 위해 구조팀, 연료, 성금이나 인도적인 지원을 제공하겠다고 약속했습니다.

중국은 3일 구호성금으로 500만달러를 제공하겠다고 제의했으며, 일본은 미국의 석유공급 부족을 막기 위해 자체 전략비축유를 공급하겠다고 말했습니다. 현재 시력 치료를 위해 병원에 입원중인 자크 시라크 프랑스 대통령은 프랑스의 역사적인 자취가 남아 있는 뉴올리언스 시의 이재민들을 돕는 방안에 관해 도미니크 드 빌 총리와 협의했습니다.

베네수엘라와 쿠바와 같은 미국의 적대적 나라도 2일 지원을 제의해 왔습니다. 콘돌리자 라이스 미 국무장관은 미국은 외국의 원조를 사양하지 않을 것이라고 말했습니다. 라이스 장관은 쓰나미 피해를 당한 스리랑카도 2만 5천 달라를 제공한데 깊은 감명을 받았다고 말했습니다.

Offers of money and assistance for U.S. hurricane victims continue to pour in from countries around the world.

More than 50 nations have now pledged to send rescue teams, fuel, cash or other humanitarian assistance to help people in the devastated city of New Orleans and other gulf coast towns.

Today (Saturday), China offered five million dollars to help with the relief effort and Japan said it will tap its strategic oil reserves to cope with U.S. supply disruptions.

French President Jacques Chriac, who is in the hospital for a vision problem, spoke with his prime minister (Dominique de Villepin) about ways to help victims in the historically French city of New Orleans.

Friday, even traditional foes of the United States, such as Venezuela and Cuba offered assistance.

U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice says the United States has not turned down any offers of aid. Ms. Rice said (Friday) she was "deeply touched" by tsunami-stricken Sri Lanka's donation of 25-thousand dollars.
