에이즈와 결핵, 말라리아 등에 대처하기 위한 유엔 지구기금은 19일 버마 정부에 대한 지원을 중단한다고 밝혔습니다. 지구기금은 버마 정부가 이 단체 관계자들의 여행을 제한하는 것이 지원 중단의 이유라고 말했습니다.
지구기금은 또 버마 정부가 의약품 등 공급품 구입에 대해 간여하고 있다고 불만을 토로했습니다.
지구기금의 이번 조처로 앞으로 2년 간 의약품 구입용으로 버마에 지원하기로 됐던 3천6백만달러가 지원되지 않게 됐습니다.
뉴스보도에 따르면 버마에는 현재 수십만명의 에이즈 감염자들이 있으며 결핵 감염률은 세계에서 가장 높고, 또 말라리아로 매년 수천명이 사망하고 있습니다.

The United Nations Global Fund to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria says it is cutting funding to Burma because of new government travel restrictions on its workers.
The Global Fund also complains of government reviews of procurement of medical and other supplies Friday's action affects nearly 36-million dollars in medical funds over the next two years.
Fund officials say they regret the decision to cut the money, but can not do their work if they can not properly supervise aid programs.
News reports say Burma has hundreds of thousands of people infected with HIV/AIDS, one of the highest tuberculosis infection rates in the world, and thousands of deaths each year from malaria.
