The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has confirmed the resumption of uranium processing at Iran's Isfahan plant, but says U.N. seals restricting access to parts of the nuclear facility remain intact.
Officials with the U.N. nuclear watchdog says work began at the plant (Monday) after IAEA inspectors installed surveillance cameras, but before testing of the monitoring equipment.
Today (Monday) workers began the low level uranium conversion needed for use in power stations, and have not yet entered the next phase of enrichment to produce weapons grade material.
The European Union had warned Iran that it may ask the U.N. Security Council to impose economic sanctions if it resumed operations at the plant.
Iran has rejected an E.U. offer to provide Tehran with fuel and technology in exchange for a binding commitment that Iran will not build nuclear weapons.
Iran insists its nuclear program is only for generating energy.
