이스라엘의 벤야민 네탄야후 재무장관은 가자 지구 철수 계획에 반발해 장관직을 사퇴했습니다. 네탄야후 장관의 사퇴 표명은 이스라엘 내각이 7일 찬성 17대 반대5의 표결로 1단계 철수 계획을 승인하기 바로 직전에 나왔습니다.
가자 지구 1단계 철수 계획은 오는 8월 15일 가자 지구내 고립돼 있는 정착촌 3곳을 철거함으로써 시작될 것으로 예상됩니다.
이스라엘 언론들은 네탄야후 장관의 사임에도 불구하고 예정대로 철수가 시작될 것이라는 아리엘 샤론 총리의 말을 인용 보도했습니다. 샤론 총리의 적수며 전 총리이기도 한 네탄야후 장관은 오래전부터 샤론 총리의 가자지구 철수 계획에 반대해 왔습니다.
로이터 통신은 네탄야후 장관의 사직서를 인용해 가자 지구내 유대인 정착촌을 철거시키려는 이른바 무책임한 행동에 동조할 수 없다고 네탄야후 장관이 말한 것으로 보도했습니다.

Israeli Finance Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has quit the government to protest Israel's planned withdrawal from the Gaza Strip.
His resignation came just before the cabinet voted 17-5 (Sunday) to start the first stage of the pullout August 15th by dismantling three isolated Gaza settlements.
Israeli media quote aides to Prime Minister Ariel Sharon as saying the evacuation will begin on schedule, despite the resignation.
Mr. Netanyahu -- a Sharon rival and former prime minister -- has long opposed the withdrawal. Reuters (news agency) quotes his resignation letter as saying he "cannot be a part of" what he called the irresponsible move to evacuate Gaza.
