시니오라 총리는 자신의 정부가 의회에서 신임을 받은 지 바로 하루 뒤 시리아 방문에 나섰으며, 알 아싸드 대통령과, 지난 4월 시리아군이 29년간의 주둔 끝에 레바논에서 철수한 뒤의 양국간 긴장 관계를 해소하기 위한 방안을 논의할 예정입니다.
시니오라 총리는, 시리아와의 좋은 관계가 레바논의 장래에 중대하다고 말하고 있습니다.

Lebanese Prime Minister Fouad Siniora is in Syria for talks with President Bashar al-Assad on how to repair strained ties.
Mr. Siniora was met at the border today (Sunday) by his Syrian counterpart (Mohammed Naji Otari) before heading to Damascus to meet the president.
The visit is the first by a senior Lebanese official since Syria lost its military grip over Beirut. Mr. Siniora's trip comes one day after his government won a vote of confidence in parliament.
The prime minister is in Damascus to discuss improving relations, which soured after Syrian troops pulled out of Lebanon in April, ending a 29-year military presence. Mr. Siniora has said good relations with Syria are crucial to Lebanon's future.
