중국에서, 통상적인 돼지 질병으로 사망한 사람의 수가 적어도 34명에 이르렀다고 보건부가 밝혔습니다.
중국 보건 당국은, 보통 돼지를 감염시키는 연쇄구균 박테리아에 감염됐거나 의심되는 사람이 30일 현재 174명으로 드러났으며 34명의 사망자가 났다고 말했습니다.
당국자들은, 이 질병 발생이 거의 가 서남부의 시츄안성에 국한되고 있으나, 시츄안에서 수 백킬로 미터 떨어진 광둥성의 도살장 종사자에게서도 발병됐다고 말하고 있습니다.
중국은 급거 돼지들에 대한 방역에 나서, 일차로 35만 두의 돼지에 대한 예방 접종에 나섰으며, 돼지 천만 두 용의 백신을 제조해 해당 지역들로 보낼 것입니다.
한편 타이완에서는 6명이 오염된 물에서 발견된 흙 박테리아로 인해 감염돼 사망하고, 10명이 동남 아시아의 열대성 질병인 “멜리오이도시스”로 입원했는데 이중 3명은 현재 중태라고 보건 관계자들이 밝혔습니다.

China has rushed a first batch of vaccine to the southwestern province of Sichuan, where a pig-borne disease has killed at least 34 people.
The Xinhua news agency reports that enough vaccine to treat Streptococcus suis bacteria in 350,000 pigs has been flown to the province. Another 10 million doses are being manufactured and will be sent to affected areas.
Health authorities have identified 174 human cases -- either confirmed or suspected -- of the illness as of Saturday.
Most victims had handled either infected pigs or pork. China says no human-to-human transmission of the ailment has been seen.
Health officials in Taiwan say six people have died from an infection caused by soil bacteria found in contaminated water.
Ten other people have been hospitalized for treatment of melioidosis, a tropical disease that is found throughout Southeast Asia. Three of the victims are in critical condition today (Sunday).
