British authorities say the man fatally shot by police in a subway station on Friday was not connected to the recent attacks on London's transit system.
In a statement released today (Saturday), Britain's Scotland Yard called the shooting a 'tragedy,' and one deeply regretted by London's Metropolitan Police.
Officials say the man was under surveillance in connection with Thursday's attempted bombings, and refused police orders to stop while running through a subway station.
Witnesses said plainclothes officers chased the Asian-looking man onto a subway car, and then shot him at point-blank range.
The incident came amid a massive manhunt for those responsible for Thursday's attacks on London's public transportation system. Investigators say they are continuing to question two men believed to be involved in the attacks.
Meanwhile, experts say forensic evidence and the timing of the attacks exactly two weeks after the July 7th bombings that killed 56 people suggest both attacks may have been planned by the same terrorist group.
