중국 외교부의 양 지에치 부부장은 20일, 미국의 국방 보고서는 근거 없이 중국군의 현대화를 공격하는 것이라고 말했습니다. 양 부부장은 또한 미국의 국방 보고서는 사실을 무시하고 ‘중국 위협론’을 퍼뜨리고 있다고 말했습니다.
미국 국방부는 19일 발표한 국방 보고서에서 중국은 러시아뿐 아니라 이스라엘과 유럽, 심지어는 미국으로부터 대부분의 군사 장비들과 기술들을 도입해 군 전력을 증강해 왔다고 밝혔습니다.
미 국방 보고서는 중국의 실질적인 국방 예산이 중국 정부의 발표액보다 세 배 이상 많을 것으로 추정하며, 이는 전 세계 국가들 가운데 세 번째로 많은 액수라고 밝혔습니다.

China has denounced a U.S. government report that warns Beijing's fast-growing military strength could pose a threat to the region.
Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi said today (Wednesday) the report groundlessly attacks the Chinese military's drive to modernize.
Mr. Yang also said the report ignores facts, and spreads what he called the "China threat theory."
The Pentagon report, issued Tuesday, says China is enlarging its military capabilities by buying hardware and technology mostly from Russia, but also from Israel, Europe and even the United States.
The report estimates China's military budget may be as much as three times the amount Beijing claims, which would make it the third-largest defense budget in the world.
Mr. Yang disputed the Pentagon's figures on China's military spending.
In Washington, a White House spokesman said today (Wednesday) it is important for U.S. officials to pay close attention to China's military build-up.
