Prince Albert of Monaco is set to take the throne of the wealthy Mediterranean principality today (Tuesday),three months after the death of his father, Prince Rainier.
The all-day ceremonies begin with a Roman Catholic Mass, and end with a lavish party and fireworks display in Monte Carlo. All Monaco-born residents are invited.
A more formal investiture ceremony is planned for November, with foreign heads of state invited.
The 47-year-old Prince Albert says one of his first goals as head of state will be to dispel Monaco's reputation as being a haven for money laundering.
The prince's family -- the Grimaldis -- has ruled Monaco for more than 700 years.
