조지 부시 미국 대통령은 유럽 연합이 이란 핵 계획을 둘러싸고 테헤란측과 회담을 갖는데에 찬동하고, 미국 정부는 여전히 이란의 핵 무기 개발을 받아 들일 수 없는 것으로 보고 있다고 말했습니다.
부시 대통령은 27일 백악관에서 독일의 게르하트 쉬레더 총리와 회담한 뒤 자신은 경제적 양보 조치들을 대가로 테헤란측에게 우라늄 농축 활동을 영구적으로 전면 중지하도록 설득하려는 독일과 프랑스, 영국의 노력을 지지한다고 말했습니다.
한편, 유럽 연합 회원국 외무 장관들은 이날 강경 노선의 마흐무드 아흐마디네자드씨가 이란 대통령으로 선출됐음에도 불구하고 핵 회담의 일정에는 변함이 없을 것으로 기대하고있다고 말했습니다.
이에 앞서 아흐마디네자드 대통령 당선자는 이란이 영국과 프랑스, 독일과 핵 회담을 가질 것이나, 이란 정부로서는 전력 생산등 평화적인 목적을 위해 핵 기술을 개발할 권리가 있다는 것을 계속 주장할 것이라고 말했습니다.

President Bush has endorsed European talks with Tehran over its nuclear program, and says Washington continues to view the development of nuclear weapons by Iran as unacceptable.
Following talks with German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder, Mr. Bush said he backs French, German and British efforts to convince Tehran to permanently halt all uranium-enrichment activities in exchange for economic concessions.
Foreign ministers from the European nations today (Monday) said they hope the election of hard-liner Mahmoud Ahmadinejad as Iran's president will not change the schedule for nuclear talks.
Mr. Ahmadinejad has said his country would hold talks with Britain, France and Germany, but Tehran will continue to insist it has a right to develop nuclear technology for peaceful purposes, such as generating electricity.
