하비에르 솔라나 유럽연합 외교정책 의장은 이란 대통령 선거에서 강경파인 마무드 아흐마디네자드가 당선되었음에도 불구하고 이란에 대한 유럽연합의 외교정책이 즉각 변해야 할 이유는 없다고 말했습니다.
솔라나 의장은 27일 부루셀에서 이같이 밝였습니다. 이란의, 아흐마디네자드 대통령 당선자는 전날 기자회견에서 자신이 이끄는 새 정부는 유럽연합과의 대화를 계속할 것이지만 이란에게는 평화적인 핵 활동을 추구할 권리가 있다고 주장했습니다.
영국과 독일, 프랑스는 현재 유럽연합을 대신해 이란 정부와 이란의 핵무기 개발 계획을 저지하기 위한 협상을 벌이고 있습니다.

European Union foreign policy chief Javier Solana says there is no reason to immediately change the bloc's policy toward Iran, after the election of hard-liner Mahmoud Ahmadinejad as the country's president.
On behalf of the European Union, Britain, Germany and France are holding talks with Iran trying to prevent Tehran from developing nuclear weapons.
Mr. Solana made the remark in Brussels today (Monday) -- a day after Iran's president-elect said his government will continue talks with the EU, but insisted on the right to pursue peaceful nuclear activity.
The United States and Israel accuse Iran of secretly trying to develop nuclear weapons -- a charge Iran denies.
