미국 상원 민주당 의원들은 죤 볼튼 유엔주재 미국대사 인준 표결을 다시 한번 저지했습니다.
20일 오후 상원은 인준표결을 실시하기 위해 토론의 종결을 추진했으나 공화당은 6표가 모자라 종결에 필요한 60표를 확보하지 못했습니다. 이로써 민주당은 볼튼 인준표결을 성공적으로 저지했습니다.
민주당은 부쉬 행정부가 볼튼씨에 관한 추가의 정보를 제공할때까지 인준을 계속 저지할 것이라고 위협하고 있습니다. 백악관은 정보 요구를 거부하면서 민주당의 우려를 해소할만한 적절한 노력은 이미 수행됐다고 말하고 있습니다. 부쉬 대통령은 볼튼씨의 대사 지명은 유엔 개혁을 위한 옳은 선택이라고 말했습니다.
볼튼씨에 비판적인 인사들은 그가 정치적인 이유로 정보를 왜곡하려했으며 현 국무부 직책에 있으면서 부하직원을 잘못대우했다고 주장하고 있습니다.

Democrats in the U.S. Senate have blocked a vote for a second time on whether to confirm John Bolton to be the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations.
Late Monday, Democrats succeeded in blocking confirmation of Mr. Bolton, when Republicans fell six votes short of the 60 needed to cut off debate and bring the nomination to a vote.
Democrats are threatening to continue to block the nomination until the Bush Administration provides further information on the nominee.
The White House has turned down the information request, saying a reasonable effort has already been made to address Democrats' concerns. President Bush says Mr. Bolton is the right choice to help reform the United Nations.
Critics of Mr. Bolton allege that he sought to shape intelligence for political reasons and also mistreated subordinates in his current post at the State Department.
