벨기에의 수도, 브뤠셀에서 열리고 있는 유럽 연합 정상회의 이틀째이자 마지막 날 회의에서 논란 많은 예산안이 중점 논의되고 있습니다.
스웨덴의 요란 페르손 총리는 17일 마지막 회의 직전에 유럽 지도자들이 예산 절충안 합의에 도달할 가능성이 거의 없다고 말했습니다.
페르손 총리는 2007년에서 2013년까지 예산의 구체적인 사항들을 협의하는데 1년이 더 걸릴 것임을 시사했습니다.
앞서 독일의 게르하르드 슈뢰더 총리는 16일, 독일 국회에서 유럽 회원국들이 이번 정상회의 기간 동안에 예산 위기를 해결할 수 있으리라는 희망을 거의 갖고 있지 않다고 말했습니다.
또 다른 사태 발전으로 유럽 지도자들은 16일, 프랑스와 독일 유권자들에 의해서 거부된 유럽 연합 헌법 비준 마감시한을 연장하기로 합의했습니다.
유럽 관리들은 이 같은 거부에도 불구하고 헌법안이 재협상 되지 않을 것이라는 입장을 고수하고 있습니다.

The second and final day of the European Union summit in Brussels is focusing on contentious financial issues over the budget.
Swedish Prime Minister Goran Persson said today (Friday) just ahead of the final meeting there is very little chance that EU leaders will reach a budget compromise. He suggested they take another year to negotiate details of the 2007 through 2013 budget.
On Thursday, German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder told his parliament in Berlin that he has "little hope" EU members would be able to solve the budget crisis during this summit.
In another development Thursday, EU leaders agreed to extend the deadline for ratifying the EU constitution, which has been rejected by French and Dutch voters. Despite the rejection, EU officials say the proposed constitution will not be renegotiated.
