Iraq's parliament has approved the selection of six new government ministers, including some from the country's Sunni minority which held power under Saddam Hussein.
However, Human Rights appointee Hashem Ashibli quickly turned down the post, leaving a single vacancy in the 33-member cabinet. He said he could not accept a position awarded on a sectarian basis.
Iraqi Prime Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari said Sunni Arab Saadoun al-Dulaimi had been named defense minister, and Ibrahim Bahr al-Uloum, a Shi'ite, was the new head of the all-important oil ministry.
Nominees for the ministries of industry and electricity were also approved, along with a third deputy prime minister.
In other developments, Iraqi police say gunmen assassinated a senior member of the Transportation Ministry (Zoba Yass) and his driver today in Baghdad.
