부쉬 대통령은 5일, 타이완 야당 지도자들의 잇단 본토방문이 이루어지는 가운데 후 주석과 전화통화를 갖고 후 주석에게 천수이볜 타이완 총통과도 접촉하는 방안을 계속 모색하도록 촉구했다고 미국 관계관들이 밝혔습니다.
타이완의 제2 야당인 친민당의 쑹추위 주석은 제1야당인 국민당 롄잔 주석에 이어 본토 중국을 방문중입니다.
한편, 부쉬 대통령과 후 주석은 북핵 문제 해결을 위한 6자회담에 대한 양국의 지지입장을 재확인했다고 미국 관계관들이 전했습니다.

President Bush has urged his Chinese counterpart, Hu Jintao, to "reach out" to Taiwan's pro-independence president, amid historical visits to the mainland by Taiwanese opposition leaders.
Officials say during a phone call today (Thursday), Mr. Bush urged the Chinese president to continue working on ways to
reach out to Taiwanese President Chen Shui-ban.
Their conversation comes amid this week's visit to China by two leaders of Taiwan's opposition groups.
James Soong, leader of the island's second-largest opposition party (The People First Party), arrived in China today for a nine-day visit. His visit follows a landmark trip to China by the chairman of Taiwan's main opposition National Party (Lien Chan).
Officials say Mr. Bush and Mr. Hu also discussed bilateral trade issues and renewed their support for stalled six-party
negotiations aimed at ending North Korea's nuclear weapons program.
