타이완의 천수이벤 총통은 야당인 국민당 롄잔 주석의 중국 방문 계획을 수락한다고 밝혔습니다.
롄잔 국민당 주석은 26일 부터 일주일 동안 중국을 방문해 후진타오 중국 국가 주석을 만날 계획입니다.
천 총통은 앞서, 롄잔 주석이 정부의 허가 없이 어떠한 협상을 한다는 조짐이 있을 경우에, 그를 반역 혐의로 고발할 것이라고 위협했었습니다.
천 총통은 그러나 24일, 롄잔 주석이 이번 중국 방문을 중국과 타이완간 화해 가능성을 모색하는 기회로 활용할 수 있을 것이라고 말하면서 이전의 강경한 입장을 완화했습니다.
중국은 지난달 타이완이 독립을 선언할 경우 무력행사를 정당화 하는 법을 통과시킨바 있습니다. 타이완 야당 주석의 중국 방문은 1949년 중국 내전으로 공산당이 승리하고 국민당 정부가 타이완으로 망명한 이래 이번이 처음이 될 것입니다.

Taiwan President Chen Shui-bian has voiced acceptance of opposition leader Lien Chan's planned visit to China. During the week-long trip starting Tuesday, Nationalist Party Chairman Lien Chan will meet with Chinese President Hu Jintao.
President Chen had threatened to charge Mr. Lien with treason if he signs any deals without government permission. But on Sunday, Mr. Chen softened his stance, saying Mr. Lien could use the trip to explore the possibility of reconciliation.
China passed legislation last month to legalize military action if Taiwan declares independence. The upcoming trip will be the first time a leader of the Nationalists has visited the mainland since the Communists won a civil war in 1949 and the Nationalists fled to Taiwan.
