요즘 개인정보를 불법으로 얻으려는 ‘phishing’이 극성을 부리고 있습니다. ‘phishing’이란 ‘private data’, 즉 ‘개인정보’와 ‘fishing’, 즉 ‘낚시’라는 단어를 조합한 신조어입니다. ‘개인정보 낚시꾼’이라는 의미로서 불법으로 개인정보를 얻으려는 이들을 ‘phisher’라고 하지요. 이들은 전자우편이나 인터넷을 사용하는 사람들을 상대로 상금이나 상품 등에 당첨되었다고 속여서 금융정보 같은 개인정보를 알아낸 다음 이를 제품 광고에 이용하거나 심지어는 범죄 목적에 이용하기도 합니다. 누가 보냈는지 알 수 없는 전자우편은 삭제하고, 은행 거래 비밀번호 등 개인 정보를 함부로 알려주지 않도록 주의해야 합니다.
