To lose heart

Jeewon: What’s wrong?

Mike: Uh~! I feel like giving up on looking for a new job. I have applied to so many job positions these past few months but none of those companies want to hire me.

Jeewon: Don’t lose heart. Keep on trying.

Mike: I’ll try not to lose heart. Thank you for encouraging me.

Jeewon이 Mike에게 “What’s wrong? 라고 묻자 Mike가 “Uh~! I feel like giving up on looking for a new job. I have applied to so many job positions these past few months but none of those companies want to hire me. Keep on trying. 그러자 Mike는 “I’ll try not to lose heart. Thanks for encouraging me. To lose heart means to lose one’s confidence or courage; to give up hope or get discouraged. Also, please keep in mind that the following expression ‘to lose your heart (to somebody or something) means completely different than the phrase ‘to lose heart’. ‘To lose your heart’ means to fall in love and ‘to lose heart’ means to get discouraged and to give up hope in something. Let me give you an example. Henry, don’t lose heart now. Keep on trying and you will succeed one day. Now you know what it means to lose heart right? Then we will now listen to the conversation for the last time.
