Everyone has his or her own unique skills, talents and capabilities. 제가 얼마전 진정한 팔방미인, 만물 박사인 Michael을 만났습니다. Michael은 자동차를 판매할 뿐 아니라 직접 수리를 하거나 조립할 수 있다고 했는데요, 그럼 먼저 제가 Michael과 나눈 대화 내용을 들어보시겠습니다.

Jen: Oh wow! Wow! So you are a mechanic too right?

I met Michael who is a car mechanic, a salesman, and a talented gentleman who can do a little bit of everything. So it was safe to say that he is a jack of all trades.
마이클은 제 차를 분해했다가 다시 조립할 수 있다며, I can do a little bit of everything, 이라고 했는데요, 모든 것을 조금씩 다 할 수 있다는 말이죠. 그래서 제가 A mechanic, a salesman, a jack of all trades 라고 했죠!

오늘의 영어 표현 ‘jack of all trades’ 인데요, to be a jack of all trades is to be able to do many different jobs or tasks.

Jack of all trades는 한가지 일을 전문으로 하면서 몇가지 다른 일을 할 수 있는 사람, 팔방미인, 만물박사라는 뜻입니다.
