그럼 먼저 제가 Sara와 나눈 대화 내용을 들어보시겠습니다.

Sara: I’m washing my hands. Better safe than sorry right?
Jen: Oh yea, that’s true.
Sara: I don’t want to get people sick too.
Jen: That’s true. Better safe than sorry. But seriously take some vitamins and get some chicken soup. Do you want me to buy chicken soup?
Sara: Really?
Jen: But again, better safe than sorry though because I don’t want you to get your colleagues sick too. Feel better.
Sara: Thank you!

Sara는 손을 씻으면서 나중에 감기같은 병에 걸려 후회하는 것보다 미리 조심하는게 낫다고 말했는데요, 영어로 Better safe than sorry! 라고 말했습니다.

오늘의 영어 표현, Better safe than sorry, 인데요, Better~ 무엇 무엇 이 더 낫다, safe 안전한게 than ~무엇 무엇 보다, sorry, 미안하다고 하는 것보다 , 즉 나중에 후회하는 것 보다 미리 조심하는 것이 낫다는 뜻입니다.

Better safe than sorry is used when you want to tell someone that ‘being careful is probably better than risking a bad result.
