[English with Yoo] Relate to (something)

안녕하세요 English with Yoo! 의 Jennifer Yoo입니다. English with Yoo! I’ll give you a daily introduction to some meaningful and useful everyday English words and phrases! So let’s get started today!

Relate to (something)

We learned from Marianne the other day that “Gone With the Wind” by Margaret Mitchell is one of her all-time favorite novels right?

Well, her husband Stewart, who was once a history teacher, also mentioned that this novel is so interesting because it still resonates with a lot of people today. It’s relevant and people can relate to it.

Listen carefully!

Relate to (something)

Stewart: And I think what’s interesting both about the book and the movie is that despite it being written, I assume Margaret Mitchell wrote it in the 1930s, it still resonates with a lot of people today.
Jen: And I think a lot of people like to read books that they can relate to. Don’t you think?
Stewart: Yes, absolutely. That’s why we read books and that’s how we choose our books.
Jen: Like for example, we go to Barnes and Noble and if you like cooking, you go to the cookbook section right?
Stewart: Well, I go there to dream because I can’t cook.

제가 스튜엇(Stewart)에게 ‘And I think a lot of people like to read books that they can relate to. Don’t you think? That’s why we read books and that’s how we choose our book그렇니까 우리가 읽고 싶은 책을 읽는거죠’라고 하더라고요.

Relate to (something) ‘(~)
